Sights and Sounds of "Taste of China"

The Tucson Chinese Association held their "Taste of China" Family Day Festival on Feb. 5 as part of their ongoing Year of the Rabbit celebrations. The festival included stage performances, Chinese arts and crafts and a dealer room with tables selling Chinese snacks and gifts.
One of the main draws of the festival was the "Taste of China," a row of booths selling five different types of Chinese food: Cantonese, Hunan, Szechuan, Shanghai and Taiwanese. Border Beat reporter McKenzie Sheldon covered several of the dishes available from Taste of China on her blog.
The perfomances also drew large crowds throughout the day. The show began with three different lion dances, performed by students from the Tucson Chinese Center's lion dance classes. Other performances included a violin piece by Miss Asia Arizona First Princess Renita Kim Ho, songs performed by the University of Arizona Asian Music Club's Purple Bamboo Ensemble, traditional Chinese dances by Tucson Sino Dance and several different martial arts demonstrations.
