A Variety of Food Vendors at Tucson Meet Yourself

  Some of the clubs that I was able to meet with were the Thai Club, the Turkish Cultural Center of Tucson, Planet of the Crepes, the Lajonik Polish club, and Flavors Without Borders which is owned by the co-founder of Native Seeds, Gary Nabhan. 

The festival was packed with people from Tucson and surrounding areas who were anxious to get out there and experience their culture along with others. I thought the most interesting club was the Turkish Cultural Center. They provided me with so much new information that I was unaware of when it came to Turkish culture. I was also very excited to experience one of my favorite meals at the festival: pierogies and potato pancakes through the Lajonik Polish club. My father's mother and family are from Poland, so my father's first language was Polish. I have grown up eating potato pancakes and pierogies at our family get togethers and the holidays and was very excited to see them being served at Tucson Meet Yourself. 

After walking around the festival I was interested in speaking with the Thai club and the food that they were offering. The person who was leading the booth went over all the food that they were offering like pad thai that is a vegetarian plate and then egg rolls, and rice, and chicken and beef. I then began discussing my experience in Bangkok, Thailand with him and we laughed over the black market fashion and how crazy it is, along with Kho Phi Phi, an island in Thailand that was destroyed by the tsunami, but was beautiful when I was able to visit it barely a year before. 

I was so intrigued by all the different cultures at the festival, and how many people actually come out to visit it and be apart of it. I definitely think the festival is a great place to experience your culture and ethnicity, whatever it might be, and learn about other cultures and their specialties. 

The most delicious meal that I had at Tucson Meet Yourself was the paella that was offered by Club Espana de Tucson. Paella is a mix of all different kinds of meats, along with seafood, rice, vegetables, and many different kinds of spices. I had eaten paella before in France, but this was the Spanish kind and it was similar but it had its differences. 

Overall, the festival was amazing, and I am so glad I attended. I hope that more of Tucson attends every year.
