Chicanos Por La Causa Celebrates 30 Years of Success

Chicanos Por La Causa Inc. has been serving low-income individuals and families in Southern Arizona for more than 30 years this June.
"We are one of the largest non-profit organizations in Arizona and we are committed to building stronger communities through core services through the state," said Tillie Arvizu, a spokesperson for Chicanos Por La Causa. "Our main areas of interest are providing affordable housing, education, economic development and social services."
CPLC operates three charter schools throughout the state, including Calli Ollin Academy in downtown Tucson.
"As there have been many budget cuts in the last couple years, we have found it difficult to remain financially able to operate these schools, but we have still had great success," said Arvizu. "Almost 90 percent of our students go on to higher education."
CPLC has also been a leader in helping low-income families afford a down payment on a home.
"Home ownership is one of the best financial decisions a person can make and that is why it is so important for us to assist families that may not have been able to afford to own a home," said Arvizu.
Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, better known as the stimulus bill, CPLC has received a total of $164 million to assist families and help the economy recover.
