During a Mardi Gras parade, a float is decorated to show opposition to Arizona's SB1070. (Photo by: Samantha Sais)The effects of SB1070 are being felt around the nation.  During one of many Mardi Gras parades in New Orleans, a float’s theme was dedicated to its disapproval of the senate bill.

Arizona’s SB1070 is an anti-illegal immigration act that was signed into law by Governor Jan Brewer in April 2010.  Before the bill was put into effect, a federal judge issued a preliminary injunction.

As of February 2011, Arizona has filed a countersuit to the lawsuit by United States Department of Justice in the United States v. Arizona case.

It has been nearly a year since the bill was signed into law and people have organized several protests against the bill.  In addition, some states have boycotted Arizona.Phrases were written on the float like, "Run for the border!" (Photo by: Samantha Sais)

A politically themed parade featured the SB1070 float.  The float had a police officer holding a octagonal sign with SB1070 written on it and a hand motioning to stop.

Written on the sides of the float were messages such as, “Run for the border!” On the back of the float was a painted image of President Obama ushering sombrero wearing Mexicans into a voting booth.

While the effects of SB1070 resonate constantly here in Arizona, it is apparent that the bill has a broader effect on the country as a whole.
