Artist Breaking Boundaries

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Alfred J. Quiroz is a painting professor at the University of Arizona with decades of experience creating paintings, sculptures and films. He is a Mexican American artist working to step outside the boundaries of his ethnicity and produce artwork rooted in history and politics.

Part 1: Alfred Quiroz’s office, filled with inflatable animals, mannequins wearing wigs, and even a nude class photograph from his undergraduate studies, is almost as eccentric and charismatic as the man himself. Click here to read about the life and works of Alfred J. Quiroz.

Part 2: From the real dentures posted on his bulletin board, to the broken fortune cookie still inside its package, Quiroz is the proud owner of lots of quirky treasures. Click here to get an inside peek of Quiroz's office through the eyes of artist, Ashlee Cain.

Part 3: Quiroz created contemporary milagros to represent the struggle that takes place when crossing the border. Click here to watch Quiroz explain the significance of the border wall art project, "Parade of Humanity."

Part 4: Skulls, coyotes and detached limbs are just a few of the symbols present in "Parade of Humanity". Click here to view images of Quiroz's border art.
