Irish in the Desert

Posted by Sarah Briggs on February 28, 2008

The Irish are thriving in the desert of Tucson, Ariz. Although they seem to be somewhat quiet in Tucson culture, there are many places you can go to find a bit of Irish heritage. You can grab a bite of cabbage at The Auld Dubliner, take Irish dance lessons at the Tir Conaill Academy of Irish Dance, or have the Irish-influenced musical group Round the House play at your wedding.
According to the 2000 census, 46,811 Tucsonans were of Irish heritage with an additional 117 actually born in Ireland. In 2006 the number of Irish descendants had increased to 55,085.
