Ronaldo Learns Braille

Ronaldo Felix Contreras is 8 years old and he loves to dance. He also loves music and sports. Ronaldo is fun-loving, has a great sense of humor, and a melt your heart kind of smile. He is just like any other 8-year-old, except that Ronaldo is blind.

Cecelia Laborin, a volunteer at the St. Andrew's Children's Clinic, said that Ronaldo began attending a special education school in Mexico when he was just two and a half years old. But the school has a lack of learning tools.

“They thought he’d never be able to learn,” said Laborin.

Then, Ronaldo’s mother, Ana Contreras, and father, Jose Arballo brought Ronaldo to the clinic, and kept bringing him every month since, so that Ronaldo would have the chance to learn new skills that will help him have a better life.

He is currently learning braille on a machine provided by the St. Andrews Clinic.

Just like other eight year olds, Ronaldo also has dreams.

He says that when he grows up he wants to be a teacher or truck driver or taxi driver or… well, he’s got plenty of time to decide. With help from St. Andrew’s Clinic, he’ll have more choices for a better future.
